Description
Lilaeopsis brasiliensis, commonly known as the “Micro Sword”, is a popular aquatic plant among aquascapers. This miniature, delicate grass-like species adds a touch of elegance to your underwater landscape.
Care Guidelines
- Lighting Requirements: Medium to high light intensity is ideal for this plant to thrive. Ensure it receives at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight or bright artificial light daily.
- Water Parameters: Keep the water parameters stable with a pH between 6.5 and 7.5, temperature ranging from 72°F (22°C) to 82°F (28°C), and moderate hardness (GH 3-9 dKH).
- Substrate: Fine gravel or sand is suitable for rooting this plant. A high nutrient substrate is preferred as this feeds through the roots.
- CO2 Injection: While not strictly necessary, adding CO2 will aid in the growth of the Micro Sword.
- Fertilization: Use a balanced aquatic plant fertilizer weekly to provide essential nutrients for optimal growth. Fertilize through the roots using root tabs or injecting dilute fertilizer into the substrate.
- Maintenance: Regularly trim excess growth to keep your Micro Sword healthy and compact.
Propagation
Lilaeopsis brasiliensis can be easily propagated by dividing runners and replanting them in the substrate.
Additional Information
- This species is suitable for both freshwater and brackish water aquariums.
- Be mindful of any potential algae outbreaks caused by high light intensity and nutrient-rich conditions, as it may require additional maintenance.
