Did you know that the aquarium plant trade contributes to a large number of invasive species around the world? When certain plants that are not native to the area are released into the environment, they may grow wildly and out of control. It will then negatively affect wildlife, vegetation, and even community operations such as blocking waterways. Because of this, we only ship our plants within Canada. We strongly encourage you to do your part in preventing invasive species from spreading in your environment.

Your role in preventing invasive species

We would like to ask all aquatic plant hobbyists and enthusiasts to practice the following standards, to keep your own environment healthy (and perhaps lower taxes by not needing your city operations to take care of invasive species!).

  • Never flush any plant species in the toilet or down a drain.
  • Do not dispose of plants in sewers (especially storm drains).
  • Do not release plants (or living creatures) into the wild, such as lakes, rivers, ditches, or the ocean.
  • Research the plants and their invasive status in your area.

There are a couple of options when disposing of plants.

  • Boil the plants before throwing them out.
  • Dry them out, and grind them down to create more fish food!
  • Seal the plants in a plastic bag or container, and place them in the trash.
  • Give/trade/sell them to enthusiasts.
  • Throw them in the compost bin.
