Description
The Dwarf Hairgrass (Eleocharis parvula) is a versatile, aquatic plant that thrives in both freshwater and brackish water environments. This hardy and easy-to-maintain grass-like aquatic plant adds a natural touch to any underwater landscape.
Care Instructions
- Light Requirements: Dwarf Hairgrass prefers moderate to high light conditions. It can adapt to lower light levels with time, but grows much slower and more sparsely.
- Water Parameters: Maintain a water temperature between 72°F (22°C) and 82°F (28°C). A pH level of 6.0 – 7.5 is suitable for this plant.
- Substrate: Plant the Dwarf Hairgrass in a sandy or fine gravel substrate, ensuring it’s buried up to its nodes.
Propagation
The Dwarf Hairgrass reproduces primarily through rhizomes (underground stems). As the plant grows, it will create new shoots that can be easily detached and replanted in separate locations.
When you first receive your dwarf hairgrass, carefully separate them into smaller bundles of about 3-5 leaves each, including the roots. Bury the roots into your substrate about 1/2″ to 1″ apart. With a rich substrate and adequate lighting, it will create a lush carpet within a couple of weeks!
