Description
Experience the charm of nature with our Ludwigia palustris. This aquatic plant is a great addition to any freshwater aquarium, providing an enriching environment for your aquatic life. This is the ‘super red’ variety. With a low nitrogen and bright light, this aquatic stem plant will stay a deep red colour.
Care Instructions
- Water Conditions: Ludwigia palustris thrives best in slightly acidic (pH 6.0 – 7.5) to neutral water with a temperature range of 72°F to 82°F (22°C to 28°C).
- Lighting Requirements: Provide moderate to high light intensity for optimal growth. This can be achieved using fluorescent or LED aquarium lights.
- Substrate: Use a substrate that mimics marshland, such as fine gravel or sand.
Propagation
Ludwigia palustris can easily be propagated by stem cuttings. Simply remove a healthy stem from the mother plant and place it in the substrate, ensuring at least one node is submerged. New roots will soon develop, and within a few weeks, new plants should emerge.
Characteristics & Appearance
Unlike its close relative Ludwigia repens, which has prostrate growing stems and small leaves, Ludwigia palustris has upright stems and larger, more rounded leaves. This beautiful plant makes a stunning addition to any freshwater aquarium and can be used as a background or foreground plant.
Notes
- Ludwigia palustris is not only a great choice for aquariums but also acts as a natural water purifier, removing excess nutrients and waste from the water column.
- Be aware that rapid growth may require regular trimming to prevent overcrowding of your your aquarium.
